iPhone 13 Pro vs Pixel 6 Pro: 2000 Photos Later | Full Frame Ep. 5

When the iPhone 13 Pro launched earlier this fall, we said it had the “best camera” in a smartphone. But a few weeks later, Google’s Pixel 6 Pro, with its 50-megapixel sensor that is hard-coded to produce 12.5-megapixel images, was finally released, proving a worthy competitor for the iPhone 13 Pro’s 12-megapixel camera. To settle the score I took 1,000 photos with each device and realized using these cameras was about far more than their end products.

of course it depends of the OS of your preference, but if you are ok with both then the answer is pretty clear to me, 2 amazing cameras head to head on almost every area, but one cost 200$ more, so I went for the pixel and I'm in love of what I got, by the way astrophotography is one of my favorite ones (unreal photos for a cellphone), I even got a free pixel buds (100$ value)

@OUT OF DARTS exactly. I want to support Sony so badly but they make these weird choices that just confuse me The new pro. I Xperia that they are releasing if their targeting more of a professional. They should have just made the phone thicker and have the lens cover the whole sensor size

@Joseph G I'd personally rather have a great smartphone that happens to take decent photos and videos, than a great camera that happens to also be an android phone. I'm hoping to be proven wrong, but Sony's offerings on everything outside the phone's camera have been lackluster in comparison. - Perry

I'm still on pixel 3 but one trick for pixel overexposed night shots is to focus on darker subject instead of brighter subject to get a more balanced shot. I always take two shots for night shots with my pixel3. I'm obviously not sure if this is true for pixel 6 but I suspect it might still make a difference.

Thanks for actually uploading the photos! That makes *such* a huge difference from all these other reviews where we're expected to compare based on compressed THmy quality. I don't know if it was just me, but from peeping pixels on both sets of photos, it seems that the Pixel just has way more detail when you zoom in. In both low-light and daytime shots. I was actually kind of shocked at how blurry most of the iPhone images were? I was actually leaning toward the iPhone initially because I hate big, clunky phones, but camera is really important to me, so I may have to reconsider the Pixel.

I genuinely loved this video! I personally use an iPhone, but I'll always be partial to the Pixel line. I had the 4XL a couple years ago and it was probably the best phone I've ever owned; the features are still unmatched on iOS two years later. I have a love-hate relationship with the iPhone camera... A Pixel is either a 7/10 photo or an 11, an iPhone is *always* a 9/10. It's consistent, but at it's best can't match a Pixel doing *it's best.

Been waiting for this video. One of the best comparisons out there. I really appreciate the photo samples. Photo 40 blew my mind! I wish the more useful telephotos on these phones becomes the default "second camera" in favour of the ultrawides. Also I find the pixel photos to look more natural. the iphone seems to produce far more dramatic photos (good for social media) but i feel it looses the 'feel' of the scene. I have been deliberating about switching from the iPhone12mini to the Pixel6pro. I used to love taking photos with my pixel4xl but that stopped once I moved back to iPhone. Going from mini to larger p6pro is going to take some adjustment. I so wish google hadn't coupled the telephoto with a curved screen. Honestly the curved screen is the biggest thing holding me back.

Fantastic work, Becca ... I deeply appreciate all the work you and your team did here! I thought Mariya's analysis of the photos of her was very interesting. She likes her skin tone on the Pixel 6 Pro better ... but watching this video, it felt like the iPhone photos were closer to what your videographer was capturing of her. I think that just backs up your conclusion ... photo "quality" is arguably as much about personal preference now as they are the actual technology. And when it comes to mobile photography, the answer is still the same as it always was: The best camera is the phone you have on you.

great video - am still getting used to my Pixel 6 camera. Overall quite happy but I do miss some proper shadows! What I do like is that many things are easily adjustable on the Pixel. Some people have complained about too much blur in portrait mode - that can be fixed quite easily on the phone though. Not sure if there are other tricks to reduce the 'too much HDR' effect on some pics?

I've been a pixel user for my last 4 phones and I'm going to be switching to the iPhone mostly because I'm jumping into the Apple ecosystem with both feet. The thing I'm going to really miss is having a phone that takes incredible night time shots. To me the place the Pixel wins almost every time is night time shots. The telephoto is clearly better as well. With the main lens I think it's like 65/35 that I prefer the iPhone color and contrast. The video is where making the switch to iPhone I feel the best about. To me the video I've seen from the iPhone is clearly better especially when using ProRes. I'm just glad I got the 1TB version because those files are eye-wateringly big!

I pitted the 3 cameras on the back to my Sony APS-C cause that's why I usually shoot with. But yea, I agree on everything mentioned here...also, really wish the pixel 6 line had a smaller version. It was really nice to see how much work you did and how many photos you took. It kind of brings more into perspective the work that's done in the background. Also, sometimes it feels like camera reviews are done with 20 photos. This proves differently. In my opinion, so many camera phones are so good that it's better to compare the pixel 5 to the Pixel 6 so we can see the improvements. Or the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 13 so we can see the improvements. When we go across brands or operating systems, it always comes down to favorites more so than improvements year over year by the same manufacturer

Nice review. And fun. You have a great energy on camera. Regarding the phones ... I'm an Android person, and I was REALLY excited when they finally announced it. But I'm going to probably wait until either the 6a or the 7 comes out. The sucky wide-angle lens, less than stellar video abilities, subrate fingerprint sensor, lack of face unlock, and the "wrap-around" screen are - when combined - a deal killer for me. I'm going to use my phone as my primary camera when doing long thru-hikes. And I'll have an Otterbox case that will cover that wrap-around screen part. So I'll actually LOSE part of it, which is a bummer. :-( Anyway, thanks for the great review! I'm subscribing to your channel.

I've been really loving the inclusion of the telephoto lens on the Pixel, BUT... I find myself wishing it were 3x a lot. I'm usually at a distance from my kids where 4x is just a little too punched in. Even in certain landscape shots where I'm trying to zoom in on a feature, 4x sometimes feels like too much. However, I actually like the ultrawide. I've seen complaints that the field of view isn't wide enough, but so far it's typically been able to capture just as much of the scene as I want without too much distortion.

Great video! I personally prefer the photos of the Pixel 5 over Pixel 6 Pro, strangely enough. It feels like it never missed a shot...

Hi Becca! I have a regular iPhone 13 but have the option to take 10 second exposure pictures in night mode when dark enough, I’d imagine that the pro has this as well and was wondering how they compared to the Pixel with these extra seconds. Great video btw!! Your hours of picture taking is very much appreciated :)

Best comparison video I’ve ever seen. What a fun video! I really want to try the Pixel 6 Pro as well - but right now I’ve been doing a macro challenge with my Sony Alpha A7 III vs the 13 Pro Max to see if people can pick which one it is! It’s been a lot of fun, and the iPhone’s macro mode can be crazy impressive sometimes!

Both cameras are great. At this point, it’s just splitting hairs. And so is the debate between iOS and Android. Both are great. It’s just down to preference with everything.

And cost - you can get what the iphone 13pro offers on the regular pixel 6 for 300$ less.

Great video, we need more videos like this, I’m waiting to see what s22 Ultra will bring against the pixel and the iPhone.

Hey bud, I watched the awesome video, and went through the photo galleries and as an Android user and absolute photo novice, in most situations I leaned towards the iPhone photos with the better detail and sharpness, where the Pixel photos in most situations were in comparison slightly blurred. And I only sampled your 100 photos but Becca those photos were awesome, well done.

One of the best videos produced by the Verge to date. So detailed yet simple to understand.

I was surprised by how good the Pixel 6Pro tele was. It's just way impressive. Now if it can just catch up on the ultrawide I think it would be easy win for the next gen.

What a great vid and review, thanks Becca - one cannot not smile. It's also great to see my initial impressions on my i peer-validated :) Most of my photos are about nature & cityscapes and I love the i13's wide, ultrawide and the great (albeit jumpy) Macro mode but the Tele is just not enough.
